In 1829 and 1830 David Walker, a free black man who was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, and had moved to Boston as an adult, published three editions of what has become one of the canonical texts in the black nationalist intellectual tradition-the Appeal to the Coloured Citizens of the World. Peter P.
