Abstract

The ConnectU and Facebook saga is a modern day version of a classic novel with the familiar storylines and plot twists of betrayal, money, competition, and deceit. On Sep 2, 2004, ConnectU filed a Complaint in the US District Court for the District ofMassachusetts against Zuckerberg and TheFaceBook.com. According to the complaint, ConnectU gave Zuckerberg its partially completed source code and its confidential business model including functionality and Web site design concepts. ConnectU amended its complaint in October 2004 and added a count of copyright infringement under the federal copyright act. In their Nov 18, 2004, answer and counterclaim, the defendants denied that the plaintiff had ever employed Zuckerberg or entrusted him with any business model or plan. Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook should be motivated to move forward because ConnectU's allegations have always been embarrassing and have cast doubt on Zuckerberg's ingenuity and honesty in the opinions of many in the industry.
