Since its introduction in January 2004, EBSCO's Communication and Mass Media Complete (CMMC ) has filled a critical niche in the interdisciplinary field of communication studies, including advertising, communication science, film and television studies, journalism and linguistics. CMMC incorporates content of the former CommSearch and Mass Media Articles Index databases, in addition to other serial titles in the discipline.
CMMC includes cover-to-cover ("core") indexing and abstracts for over 420 serial titles, dating back to 1915, and selected ("priority") coverage for over 100 additional serial titles; over 460 of these titles are peer-reviewed journals according to EBSCO's title list. The greatest strength of CMMC is its full-text access to 360 serial and monograph titles, in HTML and/or PDF formats. According to a Serials Solutions analysis, less than 2 percent of CMMC 's full-text titles overlap with the full-text titles available through EBSCO's multidisciplinary databases, Academic Search Premier or Academic Search Complete . However, libraries which subscribe to both CMMC and Academic Search will enjoy the added benefit of seamless cross-linking to full-text in both databases, without an OpenURL resolver. For example, citations for American Journalism Review appearing in Academic Search Premier will automatically display full-text links by virtue of a CMMC subscription.
