Supervision is a task that rehabilitation counselor educators and practitioners perform, but many do not do well. Master's and doctoral rehabilitation counselor programs appear to offer little or no systematic instruction in supervision. The limited supervision experience that doctoral students gain comes primarily through supervising master's practicum and internship students. Clinical Supervision in the Helping Professions: A Practical Guide offers a needed resource for practicing as well as teaching supervision. The text is authored by Robert Haynes, a licensed clinical psychologist and producer of video programs for Borderline Productions; Gerald Corey, professor emeritus of human services at California State University at Fullerton; and Patrice Moulton, chair of the Department of Psychology at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
Clinical Supervision in the Helping Professions presents a comprehensive review of best practice approaches for supervising students in counseling-related professions. The authors suggest (p. xviii) that the book is appropriate for use as either a primary or a supplemental text in both master's and doctoral-level courses in such areas as clinical psychology, counseling psychology, counselor education, marriage and family therapy, human services, social work, psychiatric nursing, and other mental health specializations.
