City Dump examines what is arguably the most infamous incident in intercollegiate sports history. In February 1951 it was made public that several prominent players on the City College of New York (ccnY) men's basketball team, which had done the unprecedented by winning both the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championships in 1950, conspired with gamblers to fix games and shave points over two seasons (1949-1951). To the shock and disillusionment of many, the scandal revealed widespread corruption in college basketball. By the end of 1951, thirty-five active and ex-players, from schools all over the country, including powerhouses such as the University of Kentucky and Bradley University, were accused of accepting money to manipulate games.
