A 50-year-old woman developed skin pigmentation and corneal opacities following high dose chlorpromazine [chlorpromazine hydrochloride] dependence leading to its abuse.
The woman, who had a history of paranoid type chronic schizophrenia, was receiving chlorpromazine [route and actual dosage not stated] at a prescribed dose of 100 mg/day along with dipotassium clorazepate [clorazepate] and medazepam. However, she developed a severe dependence on the drug and increased her dose by 10-15 times more than the prescribed dosage. Ten years later, she presented with a 4 years history of severe bluish discolouration of the skin, a decreased vision, and with photophobia in both eyes [duration of treatment to reactions onsets not clearly stated].
