A 29-year-old man developed altered mood and somnolence following phenibut abuse followed by anxiety, tremor, muscle aches and dependence (craving) following its withdrawal. His somnolence was also augmented by buprenorphine/naloxone and gabapentin interaction [routes not stated; not all dosages stated].
The man who had a history of heroin use disorder was receiving buprenorphine/naloxone 12mg daily. However, he relapsed on phenibut and experienced withdrawal symptoms like sedative withdrawal while stopping its use. He experienced a phenomenon of feeling a sedative-like intoxication for 36 hours upon initial dose. He also reported a continued reinforcing altered mood during phenibut use.
