The deuterocanonical Wisdom of Ben Sira is the subject of this commentary, the first on this book to be written in Portuguese. The commentary begins with a brief introduction which sets forth the usual background information concerning the book itself: its author, its title, and the date of its composition. Few exegetes will agree with Pereira when he affirms that Sirach was edited in two successive parts, with 24:32-34 "representing the conclusion of the first part" and 50:21-29 "being the conclusion of the second part" (p. 14).
