The Beethoven Society (New York)

The Beethoven Society has just completed its tenth anniversary season of all-Beethoven concerts, and will open its eleventh season on October 18. Founded in 1976, the Beethoven Society is dedicated to preserving and perpetuating the music of Beethoven. The Society's primary activity is the presentation of a series of all-Beethoven concerts in Lincoln Center. Although the standard Beethoven repertory is well represented in these performances, there is a decided concentration on lesser known and rarely played works. Among the rarely heard works performed by the Beethoven Society are the first version oiFidelio, the opera fragment Vesta's Feuer, the Cantata on the Death of Joseph II, a choreographed version of the Ritterballet music, the complete narrated incidental music of Egmont, the Violin Concerto in Beethoven's arrangement for piano and orchestra, and the complete arias and songs for orchestra.
