To call Baseball Bibliography a unique and exhaustive reference work is an understatement. Now in its second edition the work includes 57,566 unique citations in four volumes. According to John Kuenster, editor of Baseball Digest and author of the work's foreword, the volumes include "information on virtually every conceivable facet of the game and where to find that information". In addition to the foreword, the work includes an introduction by the editor Myron J. Smith, a list of the journals, periodicals, and magazines consulted, and an extensive index of names and subjects. The index alone took ten months to complete. According to Smith, Baseball Bibliography is, "the largest and most comprehensive non-electronic database, print bibliography of any major American sport".
Volume 1 covers Reference Works, General Works, History, and Special Studies, as well as Professional Leagues and Teams. Volume 2 covers Youth League, College, Foreign, and Amateur/Semi-Pro Baseball, Baseball Rules and Techniques, Collective Biography, and Individual Biography: Aaron to Encarnacion.
