Párt's 1982 Passio is infrequently performed in this country. At an unbroken seventy-five minutes, it is his longest work, and is perhaps more respected than loved. The music presents a controlled and almost static background for the projection of St. John's Passion narrative in the Latin of the Vulgate, augmented only by two short choral movements at the beginning and end which set the title and a brief closing prayer.
