Se ubican y presentan las principales contribuciones de Amartya Sen en las teorías de la elección social, de la distribución del ingreso y de la medición de la pobreza. Se comentan también sus estudios empíricos sobre las hambrunas y sus discusiones sobre temas fundamentales de la elección racional. El hilo conductor del trabajo de Sen es su preocupación por los temas distributivos.
