Tinseltown's holiday tinsel comes in silver and gold: silver to line the studio's pockets, and gold in the form of those Oscars everyone hopes to win.
Here's a rundown of the season's new films (release dates are tentative):

Killing Zoe -- Eric Stoltz is a safecracker who participates in a botched bank robbery in Paris. Julie Delpy co-stars in this ultraviolent heist picture directed by Roger Avary (who helped write some of buddy Quentin Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction").
The Lion King -- Simba roars again for Christmas. For added allure, Disney offers a 4-minute preview of its 1995 animated film, "Pocahontas."
Miracle on 34th Street -- Writer-producer John Hughes remakes the Christmas classic with Sir Richard Attenborough as a department-store Santa who thinks he's the genuine Kriss Kringle.
Oleanna -- David Mamet directs this adaptation of his play, a controversial story of sexual harassment between a professor and his student.
The Professional -- Luc Besson, who created the stylish "La Femme Nikita," makes his American debut with this violent tale of a hitman who befriends an orphaned teen.
Star Trek: Generations -- Data, Troi, Worf and friends cross over into movies, Capt. Picard crosses over time to meet James T. Kirk, and Kirk crosses over (or does he?) into mortality.
The Swan Princess -- An animated musical fairy tale about a prince who must break his princess's curse. John Cleese, Sandy Duncan, Jack Palance and Steven Wright provide voices; Utah's Lex de Azevedo wrote the music.
Nov. 23
Junior -- "Twins" revisited: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito and director Ivan Reitman team up for this comedy about researchers who devise a method for male pregnancy -- with Arnold as the mommy. Emma Thompson co-stars.
A Low Down Dirty Shame -- Keenen Ivory Wayans (the creator of "In Living Color") writes, directs and stars in this action-comedy about a detective embroiled in a missing-persons case.
The Pagemaster -- Macaulay Culkin stars in this mix of animation and live action, as a boy who finds adventure in a library's books.
