It's that time of year again. Over the past week the Scotsman's team of critics has seen almost 300 Fringe shows, some good, some bad. From these we have now chosen the first five winners of our annual Fringe First awards for new writing.
The Scotsman has been awarding Fringe Firsts for three decades now. Awarded to new writing premiered on the Fringe (or, to be exact, not performed elsewhere in the UK more than six times before the Fringe), they were set up by the late Allen Wright, then arts editor of The Scotsman, "to encourage the presentation of new plays, musicals and dance programmes".
