CHEWING THE SCENERY/CLIMBING THE CURTAIN BY DAVINA ELLIOTT Author Davina Elliott has worked on more than 80 theatre productions, in roles as diverse as dresser, producer, but never actor. Nevertheless, her insight into backstage shenanigans is second to none, making her theatrical novels wonderfully authenic, hilarious and knowing.
Climbing The Curtain, her second novel, is a sequel to the award-winning Chewing The Scenery, in which she introduced readers to Judith Gold. In that tale, we find her legendary leading lady at loggerheads with an avant-garde theatre director on a West End production of Blithe Spirit. The show quickly becomes a theatrical nightmare, complete with unexploded bombs and air raid sirens in what is supposed to be a 1930s drawing room comedy.
