Abstract
The purpose of this project was to design a program, identify potential funding sources, and write a grant to fund a truancy intervention program that would help to reduce the rates of truancy at a school district in Southern California. An extensive literature review increased knowledge about the problem and consequences of truancy and provided information about evidence-based truancy intervention programs. This information was used as the foundation for the proposed program. The goal of the proposed program aimed to involve the family, schools, and community in order to reduce truancy rates. A search for potential funding sources was made through various websites and a grant database that resulted in the selection of the U.S. Departments of Education, Health and Human Services, and Justice's collaborative Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative grant. A grant was then written to meet the requirements for funding of the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative grant.
