Northwest Airlines' January passenger traffic increased 7 percent compared with January 2002 with traffic on Pacific flights up 15 percent.

Northwest spokesman Bill Mellon said the Eagan-based airline began flying additional flights out of Tokyo last April, which is the primary reason for the double-digit Pacific increase in January.
