Bangor will lose another 45 skilled jobs in mid-December, when Northeast Express Regional Airlines moves its aircraft maintenance facility to New Hampshire.
"The decision was based on a review of costs," said John Gallichon, executive vice president of the airline which operates as Northwest Airlink. "Our hub is in Boston, and it's a lot closer to ferry planes to Manchester. Other tax and Workers' Compensation issues also come into play."
The shutdown will not affect the Northwest Airlink flight schedule out of Bangor, according to Gallichon.
The airline employs about 50 aircraft mechanics and other maintenance workers at Bangor International Airport. Only five will keep their jobs here.
