The Streak was theirs and theirs alone now. So, the Washington University women's basketball team at last could exult or exhale or fall down or scream. Or do whatever it is you're supposed to do when you've won your 61st successive game - the most in the history of women's college basketball.
Instead, the Bears uncorked themselves after their 61-38 victory over Carnegie Mellon on Friday night by ... smiling a lot.
Oh, and by accepting hugs from some of the men's players as the women left the floor of Skibo Gymnasium, which was hushed after housing a raucous, standing-room crowd of 1,085 for the occasion.
"That's how we celebrate," senior guard Sue Tucker said. "We're happy for a minute, then we know we still have a lot to accomplish this year."
