TYNESIDE: An 80-year-old woman was the target of a bogus official who ransacked her bedroom. A man claiming to be a health and safety officer called at the pensioner's home in Byker, Newcastle, and the victim later found her bedroom had been searched. It is not believed anything was taken. Police are urging residents who answer their doors to "officials" to ask for identification.
WEARSIDE: Residents of Stanhope Ford are blaming satnav systems for the closure of their river crossing after vehicles were swept away by the rain-swollen river.
