Paul Atcheson feared he was Rugby League history - now he's set to make history!
Atcheson, the 27-year-old full-back newly signed for St Helens, looked likely to drift out of Super League after getting his P45 from liquidated Oldham Bears. But today, at Elland Road, he could assume League legend status by helping Great Britain win their first Test series against Australia since 1970.
Atcheson has been named as full-back in the Great Britain team to face the men from Down Under in the third and deciding British Gas Test.
The three-game series is locked at 1-1 after the Australians trounced Great Britain at Wembley and then the Lions roared their revenge at Old Trafford last Saturday.
"I was on the point of leaving the game," said Atcheson. "I was desperate. I hadn't been paid for almost three months and the bank manager had made his feelings very plain.
