Hard work pays off
Who's the most prolific Santa Fe screen and TV actor?
Gene Hackman is undoubtedly the most visible and an extremely busy actor with 82 screen appearances to his credit since his first unbilled role in 1961's Mad Dog Coll. But in terms of sheer volume of work, Miguel Sandoval takes the top prize; he's tackled more than 125 roles in film and on television since breaking into show business in 1982, 21 years after Hackman.
Who is Miguel Sandoval? Simply the hardest-working actor ever to call the City Different home. You've probably seen him on such TV series as Seinfeld, Frasier, Law & Order, ER, NYPD Blue, LA Law, Murder One, and The Marshal.
He's played in such big-screen blockbusters as Jurassic Park and Get Shorty as well as acclaimed indies such as Alex Cox's Repo Man and Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing and Jungle Fever.
His status as a perpetual character actor means Sandoval is largely overlooked. Viewers might recognize him, but they can't always attach a name to the face. At least, that was the case until this year, when Sandoval joined Patricia Arquette to head the cast of television's hottest new series, Medium. The NBC midseason replacement show, introduced in January, posted higher ratings than any NBC drama in nearly a decade. It's already slated to return in the fall, anchoring the network's Monday night lineup.
