Heather Cusick netted 23 points, hitting 5-of-10 3-pointers, as Miami (Ohio) defeated Marshall University 78-68 in the first round of the Mid-American Conference women's basketball tournament at Oxford, Ohio, Monday night. Brandy Robertson scored 17 points, sinking 3-of- 6 from long range, and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Herd (8-20 overall). Yashico Stevens added 16 points and four steals and Toni Patillo chipped in with 13 points, draining 3-of-7 3-point attempts.
For the RedHawks (16-11), AuBree Hamilton tallied 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Hollie Nelsen added 12 points and nine boards as Miami outrebounded MU 44-32.

WVU RIFLE: West Virginia University will not compete for a national championship in rifle this year for the first time since it became an NCAA-sanctioned sport in 1980.
WVU is sending a team to the smallbore championships next weekend in Lexington, Va. But it missed qualifying in the air rifle category by four points. To win the national title, a school must have teams in both categories.
