An unlikely encounter with Michael Schumacher's Ferrari, just before he turned right on to the A43 outside Silverstone, created the original germ of Ian Stafford's idea for his latest, often hilarious, title.
Seven years ago, Stafford manoeuvred his Volkswagen Passat Estate and overtook the world champion, a movement which, according to the author, "obviously caught Schumacher cold."
The anecdote ensures the reader starts this book with a wry smile - most of us can envisage recounting such a tale to anyone who'll listen for years, something which Stafford admits to doing ad nauseum.
His theory is that "alongside astronauts, engine drivers, World Cup-winning footballers and lumberjacks, men have always wanted to be racing drivers at some point in their lives. As a boy, it is just about first on everyone's wish list."
