THE national roading programme had increased by $50 million to $930 million, a 6 per cent increase on last year, Transfund said last night.
Chief executive Martin Gummer said overall spending had increased 26 per cent since Transfund was set up three years ago. This was significantly greater than the rate of inflation, though Mr Gummer acknowledged it also reflected previous underfunding.
Transfund manages the programme, which also provides publicly funded passenger transport services, with revenue from fuel tax, road user charges and motor vehicle registration fees.
