* Airport plans 10-12 super-stores in $30m complex
Plans for a $30 million retail shopping park at Lyall Bay on the western side of Wellington airport were unveiled today by Wellington International Airport Ltd.
Situated on 4.7ha of airport land, the development, called Airport Retail Park, would include 10 to 12 megastores and extend from Lyall Pde along Tirangi Rd for 310m.
Store size would depend on negotiations with retailers, but some were expected to be at least of similar size to household goods retailer Harvey Norman at Porirua.
The airport company has begun an eight-week community consultation process in a bid to secure resource consent. If successful, the park could be expected to open toward the end of 2004.
Airport chief executive John Sheridan said discussions with community leaders so far had been positive.
He didn't expect problems finding tenants.
