Abstract

The United States incarcerates more people than any other country in the world. Most people behind bars are men of color. When they are released from jail or prison, they often face additional barriers that prevent them from living a fulfilling life. With the present review of literature and recent trends in the criminal legal system, the proposed program is expected to reduce reoffending rates among those who participate in the intervention. The goal of this grant proposal project is to effectively help former inmates transition from jails and prisons to their communities. The program’s purpose is to help young men of color in the reentry phase by linking them to appropriate mental health and substance use treatment. Submission or approval for this grant is not required for successful completion of this thesis project.
