XVIII Yüzyıl Paris Salonlarında Kamusallık Ile Nezaket Ilişkisi

Abstract

Bu çalışma mekâna egemen olan nezaket kurallarının kamusallıkla ilişkisini XVIII. yüzyıl Paris salonları üzerinden incelemektedir. Habermasçı kamusallık düşüncesi katılımcıların eşitliğini ve eleştiriye açıklığı merkeze aldığı için kamusallığın kurulabilmesi için kişilerin birbirlerine karşı tutumları önem taşımaktadır. Paris salonlarının işleyişine egemen olan nezaket kuralları da Fransız soyluluk geleneğine uygun olarak katılımcıları belirli mevkilere yerleştirip her birinin ötekine borçlu olduğu tavırların gerçekleştirilmesini talep eder. Salon literatürü, nezaket kurallarının Eski Rejim'de demokratik bir ortamın kurulmasını mümkün kıldığını iddia ederken, bu çalışma karşı kutupta yer alır. Nezaket kurallarının köken ve içeriği, salon davetlerinde yer alanların zümresel arka planları ve birbirleriyle kurdukları ilişki biçimleri ele alınarak salonların kamusallığı mümkün kılacak yapıya sahip olmadığı örneklerle ortaya koyulmuştur.

This study examines the relationship between the rules of politeness that dominates the space and public sphere on the basis of the XVIIIth-century Parisian salons. Since the Habermasian thought of public sphere puts the equality and openness to criticism to the center, the participants' attitudes towards each other have importance for the establishment of public sphere. The politeness, in accordance with the French tradition of nobility, place the participants in certain positions and demand the attitudes that they are owed to each other. While the salon literature claims that politeness makes it possible to establish a democratic environment in the Old Regime, this study makes itself on the opposite pole. The origins and content of the politeness, the denominational backgrounds of the guests in the salon invitations and the forms of relations they have established with each other have been examined and it has been revealed that the salons do not have the inner structure to make public sphere possible.
