AT LEAST one corner of TV, that toy huckster extraordinare, is reforming. This week, cable's The Learning Channel began offering "Ready, Set, Learn!," six hours of commercial-free programming each weekday.
"Ready, Set, Learn!," targeted at the 2-to-6 set, understands that preschoolers won't stay put when things get borrr-ring. TLC has put together a three-hour package of music, storytelling and other goodies - each with a mission - to run from 5 to 8 a.m. Monday through Friday with a repeat from 8 to 11 a.m.
The half-dozen new and reprise programs that make up "Ready, Set, Learn!" foster reading and social skills, creativity and problem solving. Rory, a popular children's singer and songwriter, is the host.
On "Bookmice," young viewers make the acquaintance of a trio of mice puppets - Zazi, Norbert and Leon - who secretly dwell within the walls of the neighborhood library.
