STAR TIME: Tom Selleck will sky to St. Louis on Oct. 4, two days after the nationwide opening of his new flick, "Mr. Baseball," for a private screening to benefit the 1994 U.S. Olympic Festival (for tix at $19.94 - get it? - call 827-1994). Selleck is an honorary captain of the U.S. men's Olympic volleyball team.
Guests will meet Selleck at a private reception at the Galleria's AMC theaters. He will also take batting practice with the Cardinals before the team's final game of the season, against the Phillies.
HOT PHLASH!: Baur Properties' Tee Baur and Boatmen's Bank's Andy Craig accompanied Guv John Ashcroft this week to Toronto, where they hosted a pouring for leaders of 30 major Canadian companies. About six of the firms made commitments to come to Missouri and conduct sight inspections. Also on hand was David Harrison, economic development director for the state.
AD INFINITEMS: Then there's Mitzi Gaynor, who had a spokesman tell Fox Theatre management that she would not appear on stage if the Fox Tellerettes (chorus line) opened the show as planned. Informed by management that the Tellerettes were written into her contract and that her show might be canceled, Gaynor was quoted as having said, "They can just dance after my show and after intermission."
