Abstract

This thesis explores the impact of social and political contexts on the early poetic production of Gilberto Freyre and Nicolás Guillén. The research question addresses whether individuals from different countries write about similar topics due to shared life experiences. By examining the early works of Freyre and Guillen, this study argues that historical similarities create comparable responses among authors, while highlighting their distinctive social contexts. Through a comparative analysis, it uncovers thematic connections in their poetry, emphasizing shared themes of identity, oppression, and resistance. Such parallels arise from the poets' encounters with historical events and prevailing socio-political conditions, transcending geographical borders. Ultimately, this research contributes to understanding how social and political contexts shape poetic expression in the works “O outro Brasil que vem aí” and “Balada de los dos abuelos”.
