Abstract
Sound has been used as a crucial tool to complement visuals to effectively trigger emotions. A soundscape is a collection of every sound found in a particular environment or location over a fixed period of time. The study of soundscapes aim to bridge the gap between man and their relationship with their sonic environment. This thesis project aims to I am trying to draw attention towards the continuous deafening sounds around the city and how it has been present historically as well. In addition to this, I am forcing listeners to experience the city through the ears of someone who suffers from auditory sensitivity and lives in a loud city like NYC. I have attempted to capture stories, conversations, cultural shifts due to global events and technological advancement through the years. Anthropological research was conducted to inform the cultural impacts of various historical events. The project involves the experimental creation of a soundscape made using various audio manipulation, sound engineering and algorithmic compositional techniques. The soundscape was curated with the intention of triggering deep emotional responses from listeners which further help them imagine the world whose story I am narrating purely through the power of sound
