The 58-story, octagonal MetLife building, which pierces Park Avenue and looms over the broad boulevard, is on the block.
The insurance company also is gauging interest on another trophy building it owns, One Madison Avenue, and has hired two real estate firms to shop the properties.
"We haven't decided yet if we are going to sell," MetLife spokesman John Calagna said yesterday.
Past buyers for New York trophy buildings have emerged from all over the world, often paying top dollar. The MetLife building in particular is attractive because it is distinctive and because of its central location atop a large transit hub.
