- With less than a year to go before the gubernatorial election, a statewide poll released yesterday shows Gov. Mario Cuomo's job approval rating has dropped - yet again - to its lowest point since he took office a decade ago.
The poll, conducted this week by the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, found that only one out of three New York voters now believes Cuomo is doing a good or excellent job, while 39.7 percent describe his performance as fair and 25.9 percent say it has been poor.
Although 57.3 percent of voters surveyed indicated that Cuomo generally has been a good governor since taking office, a clear plurality of 49.9 percent said they do not want him to run for a fourth four-year term in November. Only 39.9 percent said he should run.
