The battle over the future character of Manhattan resumes tonight when Community Board 7 votes on plans by ABC to build two additional television studios and three luxury apartment towers next to Donald Trump's Riverside South.
The network is dangling the promise of 300 new permanent jobs for the city's sagging film and television industry if it builds the new studios on West End Avenue from 64th to 66th Streets.
But network executives say they may transfer the project to Los Angeles if the city refuses to allow construction of 937 luxury apartments and a 350-car public parking garage on the site to help finance the project.
As a longtime employer in the area , the network would seem to have an edge on winning approval for its plans.
