It's the Godzilla of globes.
The giant sphere showcased in the lobby of DeLorme mapping company's new headquarters makes run-of-the-mill globes in classrooms and libraries look downright puny.
Two years in the making, it's 42 feet high with a surface constructed of 792 sections, some as big as 4 feet by 3 feet. It weighs 5,600 pounds.
"It's fun to look at those little globes. But you look at this one and say, `Wow!' " said Jeff Clark, a map technician responsible for each of the plastic panels that cover theDeLorme creation, unveiled Thursday as the world's largest globe.
The globe, dubbed "Eartha" by the mapping company, is the brainchild of David DeLorme, its founder.
