WNUV-TV is about to lose its status as Baltimore's last independent commercial television station, but it's gaining a network--at least for a few hours a week.
Channel 54, a longtime also-ran in the Baltimore TV ratings game, becomes an affiliate of the newly launched United Paramount Network (UPN) on Jan. 16. The station will air an abbreviated lineup of five network shows in 96 markets.
The television network sweepstakes also snapped up Towson State University's Channel 61. It became Baltimore's outlet for the new Warner Bros. (WB) network on Wednesday, according to TSU officials.
WB launched four comedy shows between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., which is the two-hour block the network has committed to provide on Wednesday nights. The four shows are "The Wayans Bros.," "The Parent 'Hood," "Unhappily Ever After" and "Muscle."
Both stations are hoping to score the same success as WBFF-TV (Ch. 45), which affiliated with the Fox network in 1987. UPN and Warner Bros. are the latest...
