SLOVAKIA
We see the upcoming summit in Prague as a historic opportunity for Slovakia and other aspiring countries to receive invitations to become full members of NATO. Slovakia's primary foreign and security policy goal is to make the most of this chance.
The Government Program in 1998 set out three basic foreign policy goals - to achieve Slovak membership of the OECD, NATO, and the European Union. Last year, Slovakia became the thirtieth member of the OECD. In the area of European integration, Slovakia is a country that has proved itself capable of drawing level with those states that began their negotiations after the Luxembourg Summit in 1997. We have achieved the provisional conclusion of 27 negotiation chapters to date, opening up the prospect that our negotiations with the EU will reach a successful conclusion by the end of next year.
