CHILL-out guru Laraaji soothes and amuses with his meditative music and laughter workshops, writes AREF OMAR.
Laughter is the best medicine. For American musician Laraaji, it's a way of achieving inner peace. "Laughter can be used to soften, to release and to disintegrate rigid and dense energy.
After a good laugh, one can settle into a peaceful state and just be present, ready for meditation," he says during an interview at the Sydney Opera House.
He had lulled audiences there the night before into buttery bliss for 90 minutes with his ultra chill out music, punctuated in parts by his spontaneous spurts of laughter.
"A continuous meditative concert must be spread out with a cycle of more aggressive rhythms before going into softer serene music, utilising laughter to add colour to the dramatic opposites," says the 65-year-old of the concert, where he performed his latest album Flow Goes The Universe...
