Abstract

According to the most up-to-date report from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) dated 11 July 2022, 6127 confirmed cases of monkeypox (MPX), or monkeypox, have been reported in countries since May. Of the European Union or the European Economic Area: Spain leads the ranking with 2034 cases, Italy is in sixth place with 255 [1]. To the calculation we must add the cases notified in the United Kingdom: 1552 to 7 July [2]. Just in the United Kingdom on 7 May 2022 there was the first report of a case of MPX, which appeared clearly from import, referring to a man with history of a recent trip to Nigeria. In the following days, new cases were added across the Channel, with no apparent travel history abroad, and the reports then began to flock to continental Europe as well. Similar notifications were also received in the United States, where as of 11 July the confirmed cases amounted to 866 [4].
