Out of more than 50,000 movie soundtracks, he chose to sing "You Can Win" from the Wiz. It got him voted off of American Idol 2, and well acquainted with Coca-Cola.
Charlie Grigsby, the humble 24-year-old singer from Oberlin, was one of 12 finalists on the much-watched television show, "American Idol 2," which has become more famous than it's season premiere last summer.
Grigsby said he never watched the first season of "American Idol" until the very end, and feels that getting voted off several weeks ago happened for a reason. "I had so much fun with it that I was also prepared for [being voted off] the night before," said Grigsby. "I went out there like it was my last song, and just had fun with the audience, the song, and everybody. That's what I like to do."
After being denied an audition in Cleveland because of his age, Grigsby, with the encouragement of his friends, drove to Detroit with hopes for an opportunity to audition, and also win the honor of potentially becoming an "American Idol" winner.
"As soon as I got to Cleveland they changed the age limit to 23, and I just turned 24 in September," said Grigsby. When he arrived in Detroit, Grigsby auditioned twice, was selected, then flown...
