Abstract

UK Prime Minister Less than six months in the job, Boris Johnson made "getting Brexit done" his flagship policy, achieving a historic agreement with the EU and embarking on a general election that could secure his position as prime minister for a further four years. Since coming to power, Prime Minister Johnson was set the task of securing Brexit in just 99 days. Yet he has also announced plans to cut business rates, issue new tax breaks and raise stamp duty for non-UK tax residents. The problem remains that the UK tax base has narrowed, with an ever-greater proportion of revenue coming from personal income and consumption taxes than taxes on capital and corporate profits.
