The Holocene: an Environmental History is concerned with the last 10 000 years of Earth history and provides an excellent account and explanation of the natural and human-induced environmental changes which have occurred, and the methods and sources of information used to study them. The book is divided into eight chapters. The first chapter introduces the sources of information available on past environments and the forces that have shaped the landscape, before it proceeds to outline the significance of the Holocene epoch. Chapter Two outlines the methods that can be used to reconstruct palaeoenvironments, and dating palaeoecological and geological techniques are explained.
