Brazil’s portion of the Amazon rainforest is experiencing record fires this year, with more than 72,000 fires recorded in the Amazon so far in 2019. Millions of tonnes of carbon dioxide is being released into the atmosphere, and more than a football field worth of Amazon forest is falling every minute. Environmentalists around the world are concerned, as the Amazon rainforest is a key part of regulating the Earth’s climate.

Are the fires being extinguished?
There are still many active fires throughout the Amazon rainforest, and scorched trees and earth can be seen in staggering photos.
