Phoenix stations scored top grades, for the most part, in a report assessing local television coverage expected to be released Nov. 10 by a journalist's group affiliated with the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
The Project for Excellence in Journalism rated KTVK-TV 3's 6 p.m. broadcast as the highest-quality early evening newscast in Phoenix, with an "A" score in a number of key categories, while KPHO-TV 5 and KPNX-TV 12 each received a "B." At the opposite end was KNXV-TV 15, which received an "I"' in the study.
When the scores were tallied nationally, KTVK came in at fourth place. First place went to KTVU-TV in Oakland, Calif., followed by Atlanta's WXIA-TV and Tucson's KGUN-TV. Fifth place went to KCBS-TV in Los Angeles.
