Production for the 2002 model year is in full swing. Here are some highlights of the changeover from 2001 models.
* AutoAlliance: A rolling changeover for the Mazda 626 took place the week of July 30; one for the Mercury Cougar is scheduled for the week of Sept. 4.
* BMW: The plant near Spartanburg, S.C., was shut down July 30; it reopens Aug. 30.
* DaimlerChrysler: A new plant in Toledo, Ohio, began production of the Jeep Liberty in March.
The Dodge City plant in Warren, Mich., was down for 41/2 weeks and the St. Louis (North) plant was down for three weeks for the redesign of the Ram 1500 pickups.
* Ford Motor Co.: Ford declined to release its model year changeover dates. The...
