A TINY riverfront beach created in 2005 as a low-budget ploy to persuade Manhattanites to take water taxis to Long Island City, Queens, has become a surprising hit.
The half-acre Water Taxi Beach, made of 440 tons of genuine Jersey Shore sand, is located right next to the ferry pier at Hunters Point. In addition to drawing casual beachgoers, the recreation area is increasingly playing host to an array of corporate, political and cultural events.
