Abstract

Building on studies that underpinned the way Latin American literature has been seen through editorial lenses in recent years in Sweden (Alvstad in Transl Stud 1(5):78–94, 2012) and Italy (Carini in Castilla Estudios de Literatura 6:314–335, 2015), the current article aims at capturing the specificity of the Romanian editorial discourse vis-à-vis Latin American literature between 2004 and 2015. In this sense, it analyzes the paratext of relevant works of the publishing houses Humanitas and Rao. By paying special attention to the way in which the paratextual dimension articulates the “local vs. global” tension, it attempts to find out the degree to which the paratextual discourse of the two publishing houses is imbued with Eurocentric patterns of thinking. In broader terms, the current article hopes to contribute to a better understanding of the recent dynamics of the Latin American literature mediation on European grounds and plea at the same time for a closer focus on Central and Eastern Europe.
