Hip-hop heavyweight Eminem's Kamikaze attack on the chart is a success with the surprise release storming to the top of the album charts, while spinning offthree Top 10 singles for the 45-year-old. The album dropped suddenly on August 31. Eminem's 10th solo studio effort, it racked up first week sales of 55,115 copies (including 30,041 from sales-equivalent downloads) to become his 10th No.1 album.
All of those albums - including a 2004 release fronting D12 - have reached No.1 in the 21st century, where only Robbie Williams, with eight solo studio albums, two solo compilations and Take That reunion Progress, for a tally of 11, has had more. Kamikaze is also Eminem's ninth straight No.1 album, putting him ahead of previous joint record holders Led Zeppelin (1969-1979) and Abba (1976-1982), who each had eight in a row.
It fell short of the first week sales of 131,622 for 2017's Revival, which made it the Christmas 2018 chart-topper little more than eight months ago. Kamikaze's introductory sales were blunted somewhat by the fact the album was not available physically and by the fact no tracks were taken from it prior to release to create a buzz....
