Washington - The U.S. computer industry is sharply divided over the Clinton administration's latest bid to break a three-year logjam over encryption exports.
The White House formally unveiled its key-recovery plan last week (see Sept. 30, page 1) after months of haggling with lawmakers and industry groups that want to eliminate export barriers on high-level encryption. Though several industry groups complained that details were still unclear, most were willing to see the glass as half full.
